    THE ALBUM

5 tracks in 40 minutes, a song cycle from EARTH to WATER to AIR to FIRE and concluding with SPIRIT.
Like the flowering of a cosmic seed, the five elements have been conceptually combined to produce a stereo-phonically balanced audio recording that leaves the listener aware of their place in the universe and beyond.

The Brooklyn Raga Association album can be seen as a musical magickal spell that energetically aligns any computer or stereo it is being played through, as well as affecting the elements of the room in which the music is heard. The album is intended to be used for practical uses such as cooking, yoga, meditation, and astral projection.
The tracks can be played in any order to customize any transmutation cycle.

In 2009, the band went into Cold Cuts Studios with Florent Barbier, who has recently done work with Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & The Voidoids) and The Fleshtones. Guest percussionists Leaf Chang of Demons and Adam Kriney of La Otracina helped conjure elements on a few of the core album tracks.
Together, In addition to recording live, the band used a prototype software called Nyasa designed to synthesize the tones produced by sympathetic strings as are typically found on classical Indian stringed instruments. Born of the wisdom of The Music Inn's Jeffery Slatnick (former roadie of Ravi Shankar), The Nyasa software opened up a lot of textural landscapes for the Raga Association, taking it's drone sound into the shimmering realms beyond. Raga is Sanskrit for "color" or "mood". This highly listenable album is purely rooted in that traditional northern indian style. The studio recordings capture a deeper psychotropic push into the abyss, taking it to the intergalactic limits of echoed delay, melodic feedback mind-warp, swirling percussive waves, and sitar over-load reflecting a tapestry of otherworldly acidic bliss.

    BAND HISTORY

Formed in 2008 while playing on the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, MATT ROBSON and DAVE ARLINGTON honed their craft combining traditional elements of Indian Raga with the street sense of New York City originally under the name DUTCH EAST INDIA COMPANY. Spawned from a healthily obsession with music, musicians, and instruments from around the world, the group was later joined by master Indian percussionist DAVID FREEMAN, who recorded quite a bit of the soundtrack music to the Mike Myers film The Love Guru (2008). As the incense fills the room, Brooklyn Raga Association takes a leap from the conventional model, as they seek to cast a new mold and create music that brings cultures together.

Featuring a loose knit collective based in the local Brooklyn psychedelic music scene, typical live performances are street side and for donation. In the past , the association has included members of LA OTRACINA, TRAVELING CIRCLE, HEAVY HANDS, SILVER SUMMIT, HEADQUARTERS, THE RUNAWAY SUNS, Norwegian Musician KATE HAVNEVIK, MIXEL PIXEL, NAAM, SEQUIN TRAILS, UNSTOPPABLE DEATH MACHINES, LONELY GHOST, THE DUTCH EAST INDIA COMPANY & more.
